Functions of the County Treasurer

The County Treasurer is a state constitutional elected office and serves as the chief custodian of all county funds.  The County Treasurer preserves the system of checks and balances within the financial administration of county finances. Specific duties include:

• Cash Manager  - manages the cash flow of all county funds. Collects and receipts all county funds from whatever source derived.   Performs original bank reconciliation on bank accounts and is the county liaison to the depository bank.
• Investment Officer - manages the investments of idle county funds.
• County Payroll Officer - manages the daily operation of the county payroll.  Oversees the automated time and attendance for all county employees, benefit leave, payroll deductions, quarterly and annual reporting to federal agencies.
• Juror Payments - manages the payment of all jurors and donations to not-for-profit agencies.
• Bail Bond - manages the collateral posted by the Bail Bond Companies that are approved for licensing by the Denton County Bail Bond Board.  .
• Unclaimed Funds -  manages unclaimed funds valued at less than $100.00.  Certain unclaimed funds valued at $100 or greater are escheated to the state.  Review our unclaimed funds list here: Unclaimed Funds List
• Committee Appointments - the Treasurer servers on the Personnel Policy Committee, Bail Bond Board, Investment Committee and the Denton County Housing Finance Corporation.
