Denton County Juvenile Detention Center (DCJDC)

The Denton County Juvenile Detention Center (DCJDC) provides short-term safe and secure care for alleged delinquent juveniles or adjudicated delinquent juveniles awaiting disposition of the court while minimizing the negative effects of confinement.  DCJDC also provides long-term treatment for adjudicated juveniles in a Post-Adjudication Program.

DCJDC consists of one Deputy Director, four Shift Supervisors and five Shift Leaders on the administrative level.  The intake unit consists of seven certified Probation Officers and the counseling unit has three full time counselors.  We have 25 certified Detention Officers and 1 certified transport officer.

DCJDC is a 48 bed facility which provides a structured and disciplined setting for males and females.  The goals of the Detention Center are to provide education, positive life building skills such as nutrition, personal hygiene, voluntary religious services, and counseling on an individual basis.

DCJDC consists of four housing units each containing a common living area and individual sleeping rooms with bed space up to 12 juveniles in each unit.  Male and female detainees are assigned to separate living and sleeping areas.  All four units have adjoining classrooms and are staffed with Denton Independent School District teachers.

DCJDC is operated on a behavior management program (level system).  The purpose of this program is to maintain a structured environment that will teach social skills while assigning consequences for non compliance.  Activities throughout the daily routine are based on the behavior management program.  Some of these activities consist of physical training, library, cleaning of the individual and common living units, first time offenders program, and free time based on the level system.  Visitation is provided on a weekly basis for immediate family and/or legal guardians.  All visitors must provide a photo ID for security purposes.

DCJDC has a gymnasium/cafeteria, outside recreation area which includes a basketball court and an obstacle course.  This is to provide indoor and outdoor activities for detained juveniles.

It is the policy of the Denton County Juvenile Detention Center to protect the identity of all detained juveniles.
