Football in the African American Community

  • Harold Jackson introduced his friend and colleague, Burkley Harkless for this first in a series of programs to be presented at the African American Museum featuring aspects of community outreach in the Southeast Denton African American community.  Carl Garrett had anticipated being in the museum for the program, but he had a loss in the family, and was unable to attend.  This note is a tease to let you know that we hope to have all 3 of these gentlemen back in the museum to pursue the subject before the end of the football season!
  • Pictured with Burkley and Harold is Quotrell Coleman, a young man whom Harold has sponsored, and who played in his first game the morning before he came to the museum.  Looks as though he can get the job done don't you think?

      
 
   

Denton County African American Museum
Receives Award
The museum received the County Best Practices
Award from the Texas Association of Counties.
In August 2008, the award was presented to
Georgia Caraway at the President’s Reception
at the Annual TAC Conference. The museum is
one of 100 African American museums in the country
and one of 10 African American museums in Texas
