In a recent newsletter from the Greater Denton Arts Council, there
was a phrase used about three prominent art lovers, and generous
donors toward artistic projects in Denton. They gave the arts “wings
to fly” the letter said. I shall borrow the thought for this letter
of support for the efforts of the Greater Denton Arts Council.
The Bayless-Selby House Museum has been the fortunate, and grateful,
recipient of several grants from GDAC since the museum’s opening for
the festive Season of 2001. We have asked for support for our
Holiday Musicales primarily, but not entirely. Our visitors have
been able to enjoy a flight into another century when they have
crossed this threshold; they have enjoyed it immensely, and learned
something during that flight. The museum is the only historic house
museum in Denton County and is thrilled to be able to honor its
mission to exhibit a Victorian experience, specifically a
late-19th-century experience, for the families and school children
of Denton, visitors from elsewhere, and also for the many tourists
who visit Denton County.
Without the support of grants such as we are able to apply for from
Greater Denton Arts Council, with their affiliation with the Texas
Commission for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, The
Art Guild of Denton and, no doubt, many other sources whose names
are not known to us for this letter, we know the life of our
community would be much poorer. We thank everyone involved. We
appreciate their strong, professional associates and colleagues. We
look forward to a long, beautiful relationship continuing to enable
the wings of the art world in the County of Denton to fly.
Photographed here are Harper and Hannah Lee who attended one of the Holiday Musicale evenings sponsored by the Greater Denton Arts Council. Linda Rose Hembreiker, harpist, was only too pleased to provide mini-harp lessons to the twins to the delight of the rest of the audience. Flutist, Pei-Ching Su looks on.
