Mental Health Investigative Unit
The Mental Health Investigative Unit (MHIU) of the Denton County Sheriff’s Office is made up of a Sergeant and six Investigators. It is responsible for responding to crisis calls anywhere within Denton County at the request of Denton County deputies, local and state law enforcement agencies, the local mental health authority and area hospitals. Additionally, the MHIU testifies in Probate Court on every case that is filed by the MHIU and is responsible for transporting the mental health consumers to the appropriate mental health facility per court order. The MHIU works very closely with its community partners with getting persons in crisis the help they need and other jail diversion initiatives.
