Comptroller for the Denton County Sheriff's Office - Jail Commissary, Collection and Disbursement Services, and Inmate Services

The Comptroller is responsible for maintaining cash controls, auditing, reconciling, and balancing daily transactions. This position oversees purchasing, accounts payable, and management of office operations.

Areas of oversight include Inmate Trust Funds, Jail Commissary Funds, Cash Disbursement of funds for bonds and fines collected, and Prisoner Transport Funds.

Comptroller is also responsible for developing accounting and auditing policies and procedures, participating in audits of department accounts, and advising co-workers and the general public of fiscal regulations pertaining to department accounts.

Inmate Truest Fund Deposits

The deposit transaction amount determines the fee accessed.

Currently the Sheriff's Office accepts funds for deposit to the Inmate's Trust Fund Account that can be used towards commissary purchases, phone time purchases, medical, and payment of fines or cash bonds. The Kiosk is available 24 hours a day/7 days a week at the Main Jail and the Pre-Trial Building lobby areas.

  • There are fees associated with this service.
  • The maximum one-time cash deposit amount cannot exceed $200.00.
  • You can use debit / credit card or cash at the Kiosk machines.

To use the Kiosk - you must provide the following information:

  • Inmates Name
  • Inmates Jail ID #
  • Inmates Sheriff Office# (SO#)
  • Inmate's Date of Birth
  • Valid ID
  • Debit/Credit Card or Cash

You may fund an Inmate's Commissary Account 24 hours/7 Days a week

You may make a deposit to an Inmate's Account via postal mail. Deposit can only be made with a valid completed Money Order.

Funds may be subject to a ten (10) day business day hold until funds have cleared bank.

We strive to meet our goal to have Bond/Fines collected at the Sheriff's Office by the mail or in person, processed and disbursed to the correct agency or court within 15 working days of receipt of the funds.

Funds must be paid in cash, money order or cashier's check. No personal checks will be accepted.

Other city and county agency checks may be accepted.

Refunds are not made at the Sheriff's Office.

In regards to Bonds/Fines - Refunds, reimbursements or overpayments - these payments are NOT refunded through the Comptroller's Office at the Sheriff's Office.
The principal party and/or payee must go through the agency or court where the fine and/or bond payment was disbursed to by the Comptroller.

What information will be needed to research payment?

  • Principal's Name
  • Cause# or description of the charge
  • Receipt# of payment made if it was made at Sheriff's Office
  • Date payment made or mailed to Sheriff's Office
  • Agency where payment was made if not paid at the Sheriff's Office
  • Agency that placed the charge/issued the warrant (what county, court, city, agency , JP or police department)
  • This is where the funds would have been disbursed to by the Comptroller

If a refund needs to be made for overpaid inmate maintenance fees - please contact our Classifications Office (940) 349-1729. They in turn will contact the Comptroller Office with the refund information.

Fingerprint Fees

The Sheriff currently offers fingerprinting services Tuesdays and Thursdays 12:40 PM - 3:00 PM. (Ten Dollars) $10.00 per set of prints; bring exact cash only.

Record Fees

Our Records Department offers records for public information - the fees are determined by the Records Department by type of request being made. Sorry, no personal checks; cash or money orders only.
