Employees will receive $5.00/month for each year of service with the County up to and including 25 years.
Full-time and regular part-time employees in eligible positions who demonstrate the necessary verbal fluency in languages other than English will receive additional pay at the rate of either $50/month, for regular full-time employees, or $25/month, for regular part-time employees, for the use of these skills on the job.
All regular full-time County employees who have completed their probationary period are eligible to participate in the Tuition Reimbursement program (unless made ineligible by the rules outlined in the policy). Employees earning an A will be reimbursed for 100% of allowable tuition, employees earning a B will be reimbursed for 75% of allowable tuition and employees earning a C will be reimbursed 50% of allowable tuition upon completion of the course. Employees earning grades lower than the C range will not be eligible for reimbursement.
Denton County encourages and endorses professional training and certification programs for its regular, full-time employees.
Employees who hold qualifying certificates, licenses, or degrees will be compensated if they meet the meet the guidelines approved by the Commissioners Court. Compensation is as follows:

Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA's)
Flexible Spending Accounts is an account that allows regular full-time Denton County employees an opportunity to set aside funds on a pre-tax basis to spend on eligible health care and dependent care expenses not reimbursed by group insurance.
- Pre-tax certain premiums
- Establish a dependent care account, or
- Establish a medical reimbursement account to help defer any out-of-pocket expenses associated with health care.
Public Employee Benefits Cooperative of North Texas (PEBC)
Denton County joined the Public Employee Benefits Cooperative of North Texas (PEBC) in 2004. On behalf of its member governments, the PEBC provides joint purchase of employee benefits and cost effective administration of PEBC programs. The employers that are members of the PEBC share the belief that a quality employee benefits program is necessary to recruit and retain a quality workforce. Current PEBC member entities include Dallas County, Tarrant County, the North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA), Denton County, the City of Frisco, and Parker County.
The PEBC has been successful in reducing plan costs and improving benefit and service levels for its members by standardizing a number of processes. The organization has created a common plan design for all medical and dental benefits, to which all PEBC members must subscribe. In addition, the PEBC provides centralized administration and eligibility processing. These features not only simplify the benefits administration process for member entities, but also serve as attractive features for the organization's external vendors. The PEBC has a dedicated staff led by an Executive Director.

Full-time, regular Denton County employees may earn vacation credit or become entitled to vacation leave. Probationary employees will accrue vacation leave, and may use it after the completion of their probationary period. Vacation Leave must be approved by the employee's supervisor. Part-time employees will accrue vacation leave based on the percentage of time worked.

Full time employees earn 12 days of sick leave a year. This time is accrued at the rate of 8 hours each month and may be used (subject to approval by the supervisor) as accrued. Part-time employees earn sick leave based on the percentage of time worked.
Sick Leave Pool Program
Denton County provides a program where regular full-time employees can voluntarily donate accrued sick or vacation hours to a pool for the use by other Denton County employees in the event a catastrophic illness or injury forces the employee to exhaust all paid leave time.
Sick Leave Pool is allocated based on the catastrophic nature of the illness or injury, the number of hours available in the Sick Leave Pool bank, the number of current requests, etc. Therefore, donated leave time may not be designated to specific individuals or employees.
Employees who have completed 12 months of employment may apply for Shared Sick Leave Pool.
Denton County Commissioners Court designates 12 days annually as paid holidays for qualified employees.

Full-time employees who have completed probation will receive eight (8) hours of Personal Leave January 1st and eight (8) hours Personal Leave July 1st of each year.
Family Medical Leave
The Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 (FMLA), guarantees up to 12 weeks of unpaid job protected leave to "eligible" employees for certain family and medical reasons.
In accordance with the Act, employees are eligible if they have worked at Denton County for at least one year, and for 1,250 hours over the previous 12 months.
Certain specific policies affect the eligibility and use of this policy. Employees should consult the applicable policies and/or , contact their supervisor or manager.
County Retirement Plan
Denton County is a member of the Texas County and District Retirement System (TCDRS). Under TCDRS, employees are subject to a mandatory deduction of 7% of total earnings and matched by the County on a 2.2 to 1 ratio.
There is an eight (8) year vesting schedule, which includes:
- Service Retirement at age 60 with at least eight (8) years credited service and,
- Non-Service connected disability retirement with eight (8) years of service if certified as disabled and,
- The rule of 75 which allows employees to take early retirement once the combination of their age and years of service equals 75.
- Employees with 20 years of service can retire at any age.

Deferred Compensation 457 (Optional Retirement) Plan
In addition to the TCDRS Retirement Plan, Denton County also offers an optional Deferred Compensation 457 (Optional Retirement) Plan.
457 Plans offer a number of features and benefits to help employees achieve their financial goals and supplement their retirement. Participants in the program enjoy the convenience of payroll deduction, realize a tax deferral each pay period, and accumulate tax-deferred growth on deposits.

Denton County's Wellness at Work Program
Denton County's Wellness at Work program provides employees an opportunity to improve their health and save money on their medical insurance premiums. Employees who chose to participate can perform wellness activities and accumulate points for those activities. Those who earn sufficient points will be eligible for a monthly discount off their medical insurance premium the following year.
Some activities through which employees can earn points include comprehensive annual physicals, mammograms, prostate exams, colonoscopy screenings, flu shots, non-use of tobacco products, quitting tobacco, cholesterol, blood pressure, and Body Mass Index (BMI) screenings, participating in wellness classes, and exercising at least three times a week for 20 minutes. Some points can be self-declared; others will require documentation from your physician. Cholesterol, blood pressure, and BMI screenings are also provided twice a year to participants by the Health Department for FREE!
