Volunteering for Service on County Boards and Committees

The Denton County Commissioners Court appoints a number of Boards and Committees which advise and assist in governing County programs. Primarily members of those boards/committees are appointed in January of odd-numbered years. A list of volunteers is maintained throughout the year, however, since vacancies may occur at other times.

If you are interested in serving Denton County and would like to be considered for appointment to a committee or board, please send a brief statement of qualifications and experience to your County Commissioner or to the County Judge to ask to be considered for a particular committee or board. The Commissioners Court member makes the final appointment decision.

Board and Committees Mission Statements:

Building and Property Committee: The purpose of the Denton County Building and Property Committee is to assist in the implementation of policies set forth by the Denton County Commissioners Court and to guide, review and recommend action relating to the space needs, building projects, and property acquisitions of the County.

Child Protective Services Board: This organization is organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes within the meaning of Section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The charitable and educational purposes shall be directed to the abused and neglected children of Denton County, in the state of Texas, and to the general public for the prevention of abuse and neglect of children.

Economic Development Commission

Environmental Advisory Board: The purpose of the Environmental Advisory Board is to assist the Denton County Commissioners Court in educational awareness of meeting environmental regulations.

Health Advisory Board: The purpose of the Health Advisory Board is to assist in the implementation of policies set forth by the Denton County Commissioners Court and to guide, support and nurture efforts that will enhance the quality and availability of public health services for the citizens of Denton County.

Local Emergency Planning Committee

MHMR Board of Trustees: The Board of Trustees executes its mission through the establishment and maintenance of the means to identify the mental disability problems and service needs of Denton County residents. So far as it is possible within the constraints of service technology and available funds, the Board supports the development of services designed to increase the functional capabilities of the mentally impaired residents of the County and to lessen the adverse effects of their mental disorders.

Public Safety Advisory Board: The purpose of the Board is to assist in the implementation of policies set forth by the Denton County Commissioners Court and to guide, support and review efforts that will enhance the quality and availability of public safety services for the citizens of Denton County.

Redistricting Committee

Social Service Organizations Committee: The purpose of the Committee is to assist in the implementation of policies set forth by the Denton County Commissioners Court and to guide, support and review County policies relating to the funding of non-profit social service organizations in Denton County.

Storm Water Committee

Transportation Committee: The purpose of the Committee is to assist in the implementation of policies set forth by the Denton County Commissioners Court and to guide, review and recommend action relating to the transportation needs, road construction projects, and master thoroughfare plan of the County.

Veterans Advisory Board: The purpose of the Board is to promote and further the work of the Denton County Veterans Service Office in all manners prescribed by law under the statutes of the State of Texas and to act as an advisory board to the Commissioners Court.  The Board serves as a liaison between veterans in the county and the Commissioners Court.  The Board will help to insure that the veterans in Denton County are served in a fair and equitable manner.
